August 1-3rd,  Luray - Caverns Shrine Club presents their 9th Annual Bluegrass Music Festival at Page Valley Fairgrounds, rain or shine. All proceeds go to the Shriners Hospital for Children. For tickets and directions call 540-778-3895.
 
August 1-4th, 8-11th Staunton - ShenanArts presents Les Miserables, at the nTelos Theatre, 300 Churchville Ave.  Thurs.-Sat. 7 pm, Sun. 3 pm, For tickets -  www.shenanarts.org or 540-487-6245.
 
August 1-11Harrisonburg - Rockingham County Fairgrounds events: VA Holstein Summer Show on the 1st-3rd; Beauty Pageant on the 3rd; Motocross  on the 10th; Horse Show. - 540-434-0005.
 
August 1-15, Winchester - A favorite family tradition returns Movies on the Mall, at the Loudoun Street Mall, located between Piccadilly and Cork Streets. Featuring The Lorax on the 1st; Journey 2 on the 8th; Rise of the Guardians on the 15th. Bring your own seating and make plans for a fun family evening under the stars. Movies start approximately 8:45. Popcorn and other food vendors will be available each evening. The movies are free and open to the public. 540-667-1815.
 
August 1-29th, Staunton - Jazz in the Park is held at the bandstand in Gypsy Hill Park on Thursdays, starting at 8 pm, rain or shine. Featuring the Boogie Kings with Special Guest Wanda on the 1st; Kip Williams and Bopnation on the 8th;  Barry Gurley Trio on the 15th;  Quatro Na Bossa on the 22nd; and Dave Pope Quartet on the 29th. August 2nd, Staunton - Family Flix presents Journey to the Center of the Earth at Gypsy Hill Park bandstand. Movies will be family oriented and start at dusk between 8:30 pm and 9:15 pm. Food and snacks will be available. 540-332-3945.
 
August 2nd, Harrisonburg. - OASIS open house 5-8 pm for "Pottery: What's New in the Studio" featuring artists Phil James, Rudy Tucker, Brenda Fairweather, and Kathryn Kavanaugh. August 2, 16, Harrisonburg - 23rd Season of Fridays on the Square  presents Bryan Elijah Smith and the Wild Hearts on the 2nd; Kat and the Travelers on the 16th.
