The first annual Jackson River Scenic Trail Half Marathon, is sure to be one of the most scenic half marathons in the country. This trail is one of the Alleghany Highlands little known treasures. The Jackson River Scenic Trail follows its namesake river, winding its way between Clearwater Park north of Covington and Intervale to the north. The trail follows an old railroad bed of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (Hot Springs Branch) and passes through small communities, cultivated fields, and small patches

of woodland along the way. It isnt uncommon to see wildlife from the trail (birds, turtles, raccoons, rabbits, ground hogs, and deer). There are plans to extend the trail another 10 miles.
The Jackson River Scenic Trail Half Marathon, 10k and Family Fun Run/Walk is a great way to celebrate phase one and two of the newly completed portion of the trail. The race coincides with the Covington Cork and Pork celebration so great food, wine tasting, beer and entertainment await all finishers!
